The British Business Bank brought together business leaders, fund managers, and local government to discuss the funding options available to SMEs at a breakfast event in Scunthorpe.
Taking place at The Baths Hall, more than 100 attendees, including accountants, bankers, businesses and representatives from the Local Enterprise Partnership, attended the event.
Hosted by Adam Lovell, development director at Pepperells Solicitors, panelists were invited to discuss the importance of funding options for small businesses and how funds can be accessed.
The panel included Mark Wilcockson, senior relationship manager at British Business Bank, who discussed the funding options available for SMEs through the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF), while Brian Gilliland, director at Westlinks, and Laura Barley, business programme manager at Humber LEP, both discussed the importance of seeking advice from local Growth Hubs.
Ash Lewis, chief executive at Ash TV, and Sam Latus, director at Whey Box, were also in attendance to talk through their respective experiences of applying and receiving NPIF and Angel Funding.
The event also saw key speeches delivered by Cllr Rob Waltham MBE, leader at North Lincolnshire Council, and Lord Chris Haskins, chair at Humber LEP, who closed the event.
Mark Wilcockson, senior relationship manager at British Business Bank, said: “Events like these give us great optimism about the future of small businesses in the North of England. We have seen business leaders come forward to speak about the growth they have been able to achieve thanks to channels such as the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, and we are delighted to see LEPs and Growth Hubs across the North actively advocating the fund to local businesses. We look forward to continuing that momentum and helping even more businesses achieve growth ambitions in the months and years ahead.”
The Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund project is supported financially by the European Union using funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020 and the European Investment Bank.
