Welcome to the 18th edition of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF) quarterly newsletter. I’d like to start by recognising the recent ‘WomanMade’ event, hosted by our Director of Regional Funds, Keira Shepperson, at the British Business Bank offices in Sheffield.

The event brought together ten female entrepreneurs, investors and professionals from across the NPIF network to discuss key issues women face in the modern business environment. Here at the British Business Bank, we recognise the critical role that women in business play in our regional and national economies. By all accounts, the event was a resounding success and an eye opening discussion on where changes need to be made, on a broad and granular level.

You can read more about what was discussed, and hear directly from attendees of the discussion in our main feature, and their suggestions on where changes need to be made.

As we enter into the second quarter of the calendar year, it is also an opportune moment to take stock of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund’s impact. Alongside its fund managers, NPIF has already made investments across a broad range of businesses, from an eco-friendly timber treatment company in Hull, through to a fintech solution provider in Manchester, and a medtech company in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.

Finally, we revisit EmpoweredFIT, a Wirral-based gym that has utilised NPIF’s Microfinance funding to enhance facilities and grow its team, subsequently growing its customer base as a result. It is always a pleasure to see organisations that we have provided support to in a key moment go on to fulfil their potential.

I hope you enjoy our latest newsletter, where you can learn more about support provided by the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund and the impact it continues to make in building a stronger north.
